WE STAND WITH NERDEEN AND REITERATE OUR CALL TO ACTION AGAINST THE ZIONIST BLOC
The assassination attempt against Nerdeen Kiswani has exposed the utter depth of cowardice and malice the Zionist bloc within the Imperial Core has against Palestinian organizers nationwide and will not stop here.
This morning, we received news of a foiled assassination attempt targeting Palestinian activist and co-founder of Within Our Lifetime, Nerdeen Kiswani. According to reporting, the suspect had allegedly constructed incendiary devices, obtained her home address, and taken steps toward carrying out an attack before the perpetrator was stopped. Local authorities have indicated that the plot was developing toward imminent execution. It’s now been revealed that this attack is being linked to the Jewish Defense League, a government-identified terrorist organization.
We stand unequivocally with Nerdeen. What occurred was a direct and foreseeable result of a sustained campaign of incitement and harassment targeting Palestinian voices across the country, whether it’s by this government’s enforcement arm, or by its proxy groups of Zionist Jewish supremacists.
For the last several years, Zionist Jewish supremacist organizations such as Betar, the Jewish Defense League, and the ADL—who have targeted us alongside many other Palestinian orgs—have engaged in prolonged, sustained campaigns of intimidation and terror towards Palestinian organizations and our allies. In the US media, cultural, and political landscape in which Palestinians and our allies are regularly villainized for daring to fight against the genocide of our people—a genocide that is brazenly cheered, encouraged, and and in numerous cases CONDUCTED by the members of Betar, the JDL, and their ilk—you not only foster an environment in which attacks like this are possible, but are actively complicit in them.
We reject any attempt to treat this assassination attempt as an anomaly. It is the logical outcome of a system that permits the dehumanization of Palestinians to go unchecked while continuing to punish those speak out. Let us be very clear: our voices will not be silenced through intimidation, surveillance, or cowardly assassination attempts. Those who believe that such cowardly attempts on any one of our lives will force us into retreat are clearly unfamiliar with the history of Palestinian resistance—we will remain unwavering, unfazed, and unapologetic in our advocacy for our people, for a liberated Palestine, and for the liberation of all oppressed people.
To the institutions and organizations that have helped foster & contribute to this climate—the ADL, the israeli lobby, and the leadership of the NYPD who have made it a routine practice to criminalize, surveil, and assault Palestinian protesters—you do not get to distance yourselves from this. These are the direct consequences of your escalating campaign of hatred against all forms of Palestinian protest, identity, and solidarity.
To our community of Palestinian activists and allies, we must remain clear, grounded, and above all unshaken by this. We follow Nerdeen’s steadfastness and take her words to heart when she says that she “will not stop speaking up for the people of Palestine.” Neither will we, and we will continue to stand with one another against this campaign of intimidation.
The Zionist movement at its core is a movement that fears the Indigenous. It’s why they continue to do everything in their power to silence us. It’s why you have organizations comprised of israeli soldiers targeting Palestinians throughout the US. They fear our voices, our movements, and our potential. If they didn’t believe us to be a force for change and true liberation, they would not feel the need to target Palestinian leaders in the US in this way.
Let this attempted assassination serve as a call to action and an inspiration for all of us. They ARE afraid of what’s coming—the change that is inevitable and has already begun. This is the time to heed that call and meet it with an unwavering and unbreakable united front as we continue on the path of liberation and a free Palestine.
