Aysenur “Aysha” Eygi, a 26 year old Turkish-American, chose to spend her summer working to assist and defend Palestinians in Nablus against Zionist settlers. Aysenur, a recent graduate of the University of Washington who participated in the student solidarity encampments, took the opportunity to try to make some tangible change on the ground in Palestine.
Earlier today, residents of Beita came out to demonstrate against the infiltration by Zionist forces in the West Bank, the continuing genocide on Palestinians in Gaza, and the construction of the illegal settlement “israel” constructed on their lands. Aysha was with them to speak truth against injustice.
Shortly after Friday prayers, Zionist forces began opening fire on a protest that manifested, with tear gas and live ammunition. Aysenur was about 200 meters away, according to her counterparts from the Faz3a campaign, describing the situation to local media.
Faz3a/ISM, the same organization Rachel Corrie was with before she was killed by Zionist forces in 2003, confirmed that Aysenur was killed with a US-made bullet, shot by an israeli sniper.
“I found her lying on the ground underneath an olive tree, bleeding to her death. The solider had a clear line of sight to her. She was on her own with two other internationals.”
This is not an isolated incident. In Beita alone, 17 Palestinians have been killed by Zionist forces in demonstrations since 2021. With the tragic murder of an American however, this will undoubtedly garner international attention. All of this continues to be part of “israel’s” campaign of repression against a righteous Palestinian uprising for liberation and freedom.
Aysenur’s martyrdom is a testament to all who stand with Palestinian liberation and commit to seeing a free Palestine by any means. We honor her sacrifice and bless her memory.
Glory to our martyrs.
