Sonya Massey should still be alive.
Just after midnight, on July 6th, Sangamon County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the home of 36-year-old Sonya Massey, for a possible intruder incident. Minutes later, Sonya Massey was killed by Deputy Sean P. Grayson, who—after a brief escalation on the part of Grayson—fired his weapon at Massey, leaving her bleeding on the floor of her kitchen.
Sonya Massey’s senseless murder by state-sanctioned executioners of the Imperial Core continues to portray the monopoly of violence the police have on the rest of society, and that Black people in the United States have not seen any change to this regime’s social structure, regardless of which party holds power.
It’s no surprise that police departments across the Imperial Core get their training from the most violent settler colony project in the world—the Zionist entity that calls itself “israel”. This training is clearly demonstrated in their everyday actions, including this. We see our people in Palestine having to deal with the same exact “shoot first, ask questions later” mindset by the IOF, that tears families apart and further breaks the social fabric of Palestinian society.
Rest in Power, Sonya Massey. We will continue to fight in your name, and in the name of all those who experience violence by racist, supremacist states.
Glory to our martyrs.
